The Ultimate University of Michigan List: Must-Dos Before Graduation

Welcome to the ultimate guide to making the most out of your University of Michigan experience! Whether you’re a freshman just starting your journey or a senior ticking off your final to-dos, this list has a few suggestions that I have kept in mind to make my time in Ann Arbor memorable.

1. Attend a Michigan Football Game

There’s nothing quite like the atmosphere at a Michigan football

game. The Michigan Stadium, known as "The Big House," is the

largest stadium in the USA, with a seating capacity of over

107,000. Even if you’re not a die-hard sports fan, experiencing

the energy, spirit, and friendship of a game—especially against

our fierce rivals, Ohio State—is a must. It’s a tradition that will leave a lasting impression.

2. Paint the Rock

Located on the corner of Washtenaw and Hill, the Rock
is a beloved campus landmark. Painting the Rock is a
time-honored tradition where studenandts express their
creativity, share messages, and commemorate events. It’s
a fantastic team-building and socializing event, the
university often provides opportunities to join in the fun
with friends or campus groups.

3. Explore the Museums

The University of Michigan boasts several incredible museums that you need to visit:
University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA): Home to a diverse collection of art from around the world.
Kelsey Museum of Archaeology: Offers a fascinating glimpse into ancient civilizations.
Museum of Natural History: Located in the Biological Sciences Building, it features stunning exhibits on dinosaurs, fossils, and more.
School of Kinesiology Building: Not only for its academic importance but also for its impressive architecture.

4. Find Your Favorite Boba Spot

Central Campus has no shortage of boba (bubble tea) spots.

Make it a mission to try as many as possible and find your

favorite. Whether it’s a refreshing treat after class or a fun

hangout with friends, these boba excursions will become some

of your fondest memories.

5. Enjoy Late-Night Eats

College life wouldn’t be complete without some late-night food runs.

Joe’s Pizza is a local favorite, known for serving celebrities like

Madonna and Kid Rock. Another must-try is NYPD (New York Pizza

Depot), which offers half-price deals on Tuesdays (just an insider

tip). These late-night snacks are perfect after a long study session and

are essential Ann Arbor experiences.

6. Participate in Freshman Week Activities

Freshman Week is packed with activities designed to

help you settle into university life and make new

friends as well as take your new friends you met to

make the bond stronger. Don’t miss out on events like

the afterglow silent night disco, where you can dance

to your own beat with headphones. It’s a hilarious and

bonding experience, especially when you take off the

headphones and see everyone else grooving in silence.

7. Exploring the Graffiti art

Once you’re in Ann Arbor, you'll quickly realize it’s a

city brimming with artistic charm and hidden gems.

This graffiti alley isn't just a spot for admiring art; it's

also a fantastic location for capturing unique and

memorable photos. The vivid colors and eclectic

designs provide a dynamic contrast to the traditional

campus shots, adding a touch of urban edge and

creativity to your freshman album. Whether you're

posing solo or with friends, every corner of this alley

offers a perfect frame.

8. Respect the Diag ‘M’ Tradition

The bronze block ‘M’ on the Diag is

surrounded by superstition. Legend has

it that stepping on the ‘M’ means you’ll

fail your first blue book exam. To undo

the curse, students must sprint from the

steps of the Hatcher Graduate Library to

the pumas outside the Museum of

Natural History. Even if you don’t

believe in superstition, it’s a quirky

tradition that’s fun to observe.

9. Experience Ann Arbor’s Festivals

Ann Arbor hosts a variety of festivals

throughout the year, such as the Ann

Arbor Art Fair, the Ann Arbor Film

Festival, and the Ann Arbor Summer

Festival. These events are filled with

art, music, food, and culture, providing

a perfect break from academics.

By ticking off these items from your University of Michigan list, you’ll ensure a rich and memorable experience at U of M. Go Blue!
